- Many people new to using Ubuntu have two computers - one with their old Windows programs and files, and another for learning Ubuntu.
- It is also possible to use a 'dual boot' system, so you can have both Microsoft Windows and Ubuntu Linux on the same computer (this is quite technical, and not too many peple do this).
- If you are at school it may be that your computers are installed with Ubuntu Linux as the main or only Operating System (your teachers may have done this already).
- It is possible to run Ubuntu Linux in 'live' mode. This means you can run Ubuntu directly from your CD drive (just like playing a music CD or movie). When using the live CD Ubuntu is 'loadede into memory', meaning it does not get installed (nice and safe!), and you can use it instead of Windows until you switch off your computer.
